About the game
80億分之一, known in English as 1 in 8 Billion, is a free browser life simulator. Through text events and choices, explore different beginnings and paths through life, and discover where another life might take you.
What can you do here?
Begin in a randomly assigned country or region and family. Follow childhood, school, work, relationships and later life through text events and decisions. Choose a yearly focus, pause to consider a decision or let Auto continue. A life can end early; wealth and longevity are not the only ways to look back on it.
The game works in a modern browser on a phone or computer, in English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. Playing from birth to the ending, local saves and the public memorial are free. No account, download, subscription or credit purchase is needed. Start a life or read the beginner’s guide.
Is the story generated by AI?
The simulation runs in your browser using game rules, an event library and randomness. It does not call a large language model to write each event. The events and people are fictional, even when country statistics inform their surroundings.
What does the data tell us?
Country inputs are rounded approximations around 2023. Birth and population weights shape the starting draw; other indicators inform simplified rules. Historical and future eras adjust the baseline using game trends. They are not complete historical records or forecasts. An individual outcome cannot predict anyone’s lifespan or represent everyone in a country. See the data and methodology.
Where do my records go?
The current life, preferences and the latest 30 finished-life summaries (without full event timelines) stay in this browser. “Move records” exports a code or file for backup and transfer; importing replaces the destination browser’s records. There is no automatic sync of an unfinished life. The optional paid Memories Pass lets you save finished lives to an account-based Life Album. Clearing site data can erase the local save.
Only if you choose to publish a finished life will its fictional name, summary and optional message appear in the memorial. Keep personal information out of public messages. The game is recommended for ages 15 and above and includes non-graphic accounts of illness, loss and death; the starting settings can soften difficult descriptions.
For signed-in Memories Pass holders outside classroom mode, the ending screen attempts to save the finished life to the account album and displays success or failure. That is separate from the free local save and is not automatic sync of an unfinished life.
